Day 1: Soweto
Start your tour with a visit to Soweto, the largest township in South Africa and a symbol of the struggle against apartheid. You will see the former homes of Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu on Vilakazi Street, the only street in the world where two Nobel Peace Prize winners lived. You will also learn about the 1976 student uprising at the Hector Pieterson Museum and Memorial, and pay your respects at the Regina Mundi Church, where many activists sought refuge.
Day 2: Lesedi Cultural Village and Freedom Park
On your second day, immerse yourself in the diverse cultures of South Africa at Lesedi Cultural Village, where you can interact with people from different ethnic groups, such as Zulu, Xhosa, Ndebele and Basotho. You will enjoy traditional dances, music, crafts and cuisine, and learn about their customs and beliefs. In the afternoon, head to Freedom Park, a memorial that honors the heroes and victims of South Africa’s liberation struggle. You will see the Wall of Names, the Eternal Flame, the Gallery of Leaders and the Garden of Remembrance.
Day 3: Lion and Safari Park or Pilanesberg Nature Reserve
For your third day, choose between two options for an unforgettable wildlife adventure. You can either visit the Lion and Safari Park, where you can see lions, cheetahs, hyenas, wild dogs and other predators up close, or go to Pilanesberg Nature Reserve, where you can enjoy a game drive and spot the Big Five (lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and buffalo) as well as other animals and birds in their natural habitat.
Day 4: Maboneng Precinct
On your last day, explore the vibrant Maboneng Precinct, a regenerated neighborhood that showcases the creative side of Johannesburg. You will find art galleries, museums, cafes, restaurants, shops and street art that reflect the diversity and energy of the city. You can also visit the Museum of African Design, the Living Room rooftop garden, or the Bioscope independent cinema for some cultural inspiration.
